Mamie and Toby were married on a Disney Fantasy Cruise a couple years ago, and we have loved looking back on the pictures of their event.
Toby and Mamie met two years before their wedding at a Christmas banquet for their church. In fact, one of their groomsmen was the one to introduce Mamie to Toby at the time. Their romance took off from there, until a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland turned into an epic proposal.
Toby took Mamie to all of the rides at the park, waiting for the special moment just before the fireworks started at 8:30 so he could propose. When the time came, he brought her to an elevated platform at a train station, where staff members had helped to hide flowers nearby. Toby had prepared an entire slideshow of pictures taken throughout their time together to express how much he cherished the life they were building and how much he wanted to spend the rest of his time with her. The last photo of the slideshow said, “Will you marry me?” and of course, she said yes.
In the spirit of their Disney proposal story, Mamie and Toby decided to get married on a 7-day Disney cruise, surrounded by friends and family. This was a blast for us as destination wedding photographers as well, because it offered us something a little different than holiday resorts. The view of the ocean was spectacular, and every day, we woke up to sunshine and ocean 24/7. Each new day also brought different locations, like St. Thomas and San Juan—perfect for pictures before and after the ceremony—as well as Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, where we were able to take pictures on the seventh day of Mamie and Toby in their wedding attire. And of course, we were all thrilled with the chance to meet different characters like Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Cinderella, and even Elsa. There were wonderful performances every night, endless movies to watch in your room . . . we loved it!
Here was the itinerary of the trip:
Day 1 Starting from Port Canaveral, Florida
Day 2 At Sea
Day 3 At Sea
Day 4 St. Thomas / St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands
Day 5 San Juan, Puerto Rico
Day 6 At Sea
Day 7 Castaway Cay
Day 8 Port Canaveral, Florida
Because of the unique setup of the cruise, Mamie and Toby were able to play with the Disney setting for some amazing moments. For example, one of the door games involved the bridesmaids urging Toby to seek approval from three Disney princesses in order to get Mamie, his true princess. All of the groomsmen went around the cruise ship with Toby looking for princesses to take pictures with as evidence of the blessing.
We also held the first look in the main lobby, where everyone, including the other cruise guests, was able to see Mamie walking down the grand staircase. Everyone burst into applause for the first look.
As for the ceremony itself, it was officiated by the captain of the cruise on the highest floor of the cruise ship. An onboard pianist played “A Thousand Years” as Mamie walked down the aisle, as the ceremony hall provided a spectacular, panoramic view of the ocean around us.
Mamie & Toby, thank you for inviting us to your destination wedding. Your Disney Cruise adventure was truly a fantasy come true, and it was an unforgettable journey for the rest of us as well. Thanks also for introducing us to your sister, Jessica. We loved photographing her wedding in Toronto, and we continue to enjoy being your family photographers. The friendships we made during this cruise have truly been lasting ones.
